Lucky or Blessed?
This was the question that Clive Maslen put to us during his talk
with us at the Men's Breakfast, held in the Church Hall on Saturday
18th October 2008.
Before that, we were once again spoilt by the ladies who had prepared and served a wonderful feast. This consisted of a full cooked breakfast, with orange juice, tea or coffee and toast. I know we thanked them on the day, but once again I would like to say how grateful we men are for the commitment by them to this now regular gathering.
Oxford dictionary definitions...
Luck
1. Good or (unlucky) bad things that apparently happen to you by chance.
2. Good fortune
Blessed
1. Holy and protected by God.
2. Bringing welcome pleasure or relief.
Clive's talk was prompted by an article which had appeared in a daily newspaper and both he and his wife Margaret had discussions about, it also triggered memories of the very early days when he and Pastor Mike became Christians.
It is possible that most of us use the word lucky in every day conversation when in fact we really mean that we HAVE BEEN BLESSED.
I know that more than one person at the meeting felt that they had been through a period of BAD luck, which had affected them in various ways, health, wealth, etc. Sometimes we go through things which we don't understand the reason for, however we have to accept that this is all part of God's plan.
Through Clive's talk we have to agree that our use of words is sometimes wrong and accept that we are truly BLESSED in many ways, the most important of which is our relationship with Jesus.
Thank you Clive, for your talk.
Thank you ladies, for a lovely breakfast.
I WAS BLESSED TO BE THERE.
