Easter Tea
Join us for our Easter tea, with fellowship and the story of Christ's sacrifice for us. Why not take a couple of hours out from DIY to contemplate the real meaning of Easter.
"It is better to eat a bowl of soup with friends..." (Proverbs)
and this simple meal was at the heart of a very enjoyable
evening on Wednesday 12th November 2008. Appetites were whetted as
the aroma of Carrot and Coriander, Vegetable soup and fresh warm
bread trickled over nostrils as we entered the hall.
The room was subtly lit with candles in gold fluted glasses on every table and lamps in each corner creating a cost and intimate ambience in preparation for the evening enjoyed by 50 or so guests. The new matching crockery was christened and with the yellow and cream colour scheme in the tablecloths, napkins and flowers, you could almost believe that a wedding supper was being held.
"Manic Mike", also known as "Pastor Edwards", did not disappoint with his usual repertoire of jokes, cautionary tales and community singing. Fortunately, there were no "Spiritual Aerobics" this time! Praise the Lord!!
As ever, the members and friends were cosseted by the waiting staff who, along with everyone responsible for the preparation of the room and of the food, deserved an enormous amount of gratitude and congratulations. On this occasion Mike had composed a "hymn" of thanks to them by substituting his own lyrics to - yes, you've guessed - "Give Me Oil In My Lamp"!
Pastor's message was very pertinent to all during these economically unstable times. We must trust the Lord through every problem that we experience, be it financial, physical or emotional. Our "boats" may be rocked at these times but He is the calming presence in our individual storms. He is the Lord of the storms, the Lord in the storms, and the Lord over the storms. By singing "faithful One" we reinforced our trust in God's eternal peace.
We also saw a dramatisation of the Gospel of St. Matthew showing the story of Jesus in the storm on Galilee and heard the optimistic hymn that had been written by a father / husband out of the tragedy of losing his entire family in a freak flooding accident. His faith reminded us that we must always glorify the Lord.
The evening was held in order to raise funds for the Church mini-bus. Over £200 was donated generously by the happy and satisfied guests. Now the "wheels" on the bus can (still) go round and round."
P.S. The members of the Church witnessed something that they never thought to see, namely ALMA WAS ACTUALLY SITTING DOWN!
